It was an absolutely beautiful weekend in Greenwich, Connecticut. Even though we were just about to step into fall, it was a hot 85 degrees and the sun was beating down on Roger Sherman Park where the Greenwich Wine + Food Festival was taking place.
Foodies and chefs alike poured into the event which covered the vast acreage of the park with a truly grand “Grand Tasting” tent, professional concert stage, green rooms for celebrity interviews, full demo kitchens, and so much more.
Some exciting names at the 9th Annual Greenwich Wine and Food Festival included celebrity chefs Geoffrey Zakarian “GZ” from “The Kitchen” on The Food Network and his wife Margaret, Actress and Food Network show host, Valerie Bertinelli and Queen of Cooking Martha Stewart to name a few.
For those that never attended the festival, it was packed with over 100 taste testings, culinary demonstrations, celebrity interviews, games, contests, and a full musical concert to cap off the night.
Geoffrey and Margaret Zakarian demonstrated America’s favorite comfort food, mac & cheese of course! Have you ever had trouble with your sauce getting lumpy? There’s a fix for that! Never pour cold milk into your pot. Heat it up first on the stove and then pour it in.
We had a chance to catch up with one of the headliners, Valerie Bertinelli, for a one – on – one interview. We know how busy you all are these days with little time for meal prep. “What are the best quick dishes to make?” we asked. “Anything in a skillet, I love a stir fry,” she exclaimed. “Casseroles are actually really easy too. You just have to shove them right in the oven,” she responded.
Bertinelli looked beautiful. With all of her experience in front of the camera from her time on ‘One Day at a Time’ to the most present ‘Valerie’s Home Cooking,’ we had to ask her for her beauty tips.
“Water, water, water!” she exclaimed. She relies on hydration to keep her skin looking smooth and supple.
When Geoffrey Zakarian and his wife Margaret walked onto the stage for their sit down Q&A, you couldn’t help but take notice to this striking couple. They talked about their current lives with their 3 children living in NYC. “We used to live in Greenwich,” Geoffrey revealed adding, “not many people know that.” He said the reason they moved was because of schooling. However, the move may also have to do with the location of his current Food Network show, “The Kitchen.” It films in New Jersey and includes a small studio audience.
