Maddie Ziegler has a new movie coming out on HBO Max at the end of this month. The Fallout follows two girls as they navigate the world, family, and their own friendship after a school tragedy occurs. Maddie Ziegler portrays Mia Reed, a friend and classmate of Jenna Ortega’s Vada Cavell. The girls are drawn together after a shooting occurs inside their school, which affects their views of the world and their relationships. Maddie’s character appears to be the popular, more outgoing type to contrast Jenna’s shyer, soft-spoken type. But, each girl seems to go through a lot of change in the wake of the tragic incident. At its heart, the movie shows viewers how people can heal after tragedy, and how grief affects us all in many ways.
The Fallout is the directorial debut of Megan Park, and also stars Niles Fitch, Will Ropp, Lumi Pollack, Julie Bowen, and Shailene Woodley (Megan’s former Secret Life of the American Teenager co-star). It was presented at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival, taking home the Grand Jury Award in the Narrative Feature competition.

A lot of people were very supportive of Maddie Ziegler being featured in The Fallout. On the Instagram post of the film’s official poster, there were a ton of positive comments, from movie co-stars to her boyfriend Eddie Benjamin. Eddie wrote: “❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ beyond proud” while Maddie’s co-star Will Ropp commented: “Let’s gooooooooo.” Director Megan Park said: “I love you both sm! 😍🥺😍” and co-star Niles Fitch left heart emojis in the comments.
Also to comment was Bailee Madison, star of HBO Max’s new PLL series Original Sin. Bailee wrote: “So proud and so so so excited for you my friend @maddieziegler !! ❤️❤️❤️” You can see the post in full below:
Speaking of social media, Maddie, Jenna, and even Megan posted some behind the scenes from filming to their Instagram pages. Filming took place in Los Angeles, California in August/September 2020. Maddie wrote: “truly having the best time,” meanwhile Jenna got behind the camera for a few moments.
Megan wrote a nice Instagram as she finished up her debut: “plz enjoy some mems from along the way. So grateful to all the wonderful people (pictured and not pictured) who made this happen. I absolutely could not have done this alone.” Her post features quite a few BTS photos of Maddie, Jenna, and the rest of the cast and crew, so be sure to check it out!
