Hallmark Channel is forging on with the famous Aurora Teagarden Mysteries franchise. When longtime leading lady Candace Cameron Bure moved to GAC, fans were wondering if they would ever see their favorite amateur sleuth on-screen again. But, Hallmark finally announced that they are reviving the mystery series, starting with an all-new movie, a prequel titled Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New. Find out who will be replacing Bure below, and get more details on this new film.
Who will replace Candace Cameron Bure in the lead role of Aurora Teagarden?
Hallmark Channel announced that actress Skyler Samuels will step into the role of Aurora Teagarden. Now, since it is a prequel, her official character will be a “young Aurora.” Most recently, Skyler was seen in the Lifetime original movie The Gabby Petito Story, and fans may also recognize her from her role on the FOX series The Gifted. Other notables are: Scream Queens, The Nine Lives of Chloe King and upcoming for her is Meg 2: The Trench.
Samuels returned to Instagram to post about her casting, writing: “Surprise…I’m the new Aurora 💁♀️🔎📝 So excited to be joining the mysterious and fun world of Aurora Teagarden. Let the mystery solving begin! @hallmarkchannel.”
View this post on InstagramIf you’re wondering about any of the other actors’ roles, don’t worry, Hallmark announced those too. Portraying a young Arthur (originated by Niall Matter) will be Evan Roderick, according to Deadline. Marilu Henner will reprise her role of Aida Teagarden from the original franchise in this prequel. Evan is known for his roles in A Tale of Two Christmases and Autumn in the City, while of course Marilu is known for portraying Aurora’s mother Aida in the original Aurora Teagarden Mysteries franchise.
What will Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New be about?
Deadline reports that the movie will be set during Aurora’s post-college days. Aurora and her best friend Sally (originated by Lexa Doig, no word on who is replacing her in the revival) enjoy researching true crime alongside police officer Arthur. But, when Sally’s fiancé goes missing, Aurora and Arthur set out to find him. When a body is discovered and it’s not that of Sally’s fiancé, he becomes the main suspect.
Has Candace Cameron Bure spoken about the revival?
While Candace has not spoken about this specific revival, she had stated in 2022 to Variety that she would be interested in somehow bringing the Aurora Teagarden franchise to life on a new network. “It’s open. It’s definitely something we would like to revisit for Great American Family,” Candace told the outlet. “It’s about putting puzzle pieces together, but it’s very possible.”
Bure did express that her departure from Hallmark Channel was merely a coincidence as GAC began. “The truth is I’ve been under contract with Hallmark for a very, very long time. And those have been absolutely wonderful. It just so happened that my contract was expiring when Great American Family started up,” she revealed to Variety.
It sounds like Candace is happy where she is with Great American Family, but she’s not one to close the door completely to an Aurora Teagarden reunion for the network. In the meantime, she’s kept busy, producing and starring in an original holiday film for GAC titled A Christmas…Present, which recently took home two prizes at the 30th Annual Movie Guide Awards.
No date has been set yet for the Aurora Teagarden prequel, Aurora Teagarden Mysteries: Something New. Be sure you’re following Hallmark Channel on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook to see more updates.
