Hallmark Channel is continuing its Countdown to Christmas event with the premiere of an all-new holiday movie, Love, Lights, Hanukkah! The film centers around the Jewish festival, Hanukkah, and the two leads are of Jewish descent and/or faith. Along with the authenticity, fans can expect the heartwarming story that Hallmark always brings. If you’re curious to learn more, including who’s in the cast, what it’s about, plus see some photos and video, keep reading below.
Love, Lights, Hanukkah tells the story of restauranteur, Christina (Mia Kirshner), who finds out that she’s half Jewish. This leads her to discover a new family, new holiday traditions, and maybe a new romance. Ben Savage stars as David, the man who helps Christina navigate all these revelations. Marilu Henner co-stars as Ruth, Christina’s biological mother.
Fans of Star Trek: Discovery will know Mia Kirshner from her recurring role as Amanda Grayson. She’s probably best known for her lead role in The L Word as Jenny Schecter. Mia’s done some film work too, notables including The Black Dahlia and Not Another Teen Movie. Her grandparents were Holocaust survivors; her mother is of Bulgarian and Jewish descent.
Ben Savage is best known for his role of Cory Matthews on the ABC series Boy Meets World, and his reprisal in the Disney Channel series Girl Meets World. He’s since done guest spots on Homeland, Criminal Minds, and Still the King. This will be his first Hallmark Channel Original Movie. He was raised in Reform Judaism, and his grandparents were Jewish.
Ahead of the premiere, Hallmark Channel has released a trailer for Love, Lights, Hanukkah, which you can see below:
The network also released a behind the scenes look of filming in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. You can check that out below as well:
Ben Savage posted a series of photos from Vancouver while he was on set of Love, Lights, Hanukkah! He posted one featuring his co-star Marilu Henner, which you can see below:
One of the younger actresses in the film, Madeline Hirvonen, posted a wrap photo with Ben from set, saying that “it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas,” so it seems like both Christmas and Hanukkah will be featured in the film. We bet they’re definitely in the holiday spirit now, considering they began filming in October!
Be sure to watch the premiere of Love, Lights, Hanukkah! on Dec. 12 at 8/7 c, only on Hallmark Channel.
