Joshua Bassett and Olivia Rodrigo are the breakout stars of Disney’s revival of ‘High School Musical‘ the Series.
The actors who play Ricky and Nini not only collaborated on-screen but off-screen as well. The creator of the show came to the duo with a big idea. Bassett said, “Tim Ferdele (the creator), approached Olivia and I and said, ‘Hey I know this is a wild idea – but there might be a slot where you could submit a song.’
Which song is that? “Just for a Moment” which is featured in the ninth episode.
Bassett remembers the moment they got the good news. “We got the news a few weeks later [that it was chosen], which was just the most surreal thing in the world,” he added. This was one of the first times Olivia and Josh wrote a song professionally.
“I think it was both of our first times being legitimized as songwriters professionally, because we’ve been both writing on our own. And to actually have that on paper, to be able to prove that we did that was just a dream come true,” said Bassett.
